First Tribunal merger authorisation
On 25 June 2014 the Australian Competition Tribunal granted authorisation to AGL in relation to its proposed acquisition of Macquarie Generation. This is the first time the Tribunal has decided a merger authorisation case since it was given control over merger authorisation applications in 2007 (prior to that time the ACCC heard merger authorisation claims at first instance with an opportunity for appeal to the Tribunal)
